Welcome to Mindful Monday!

I had an interesting conversation with the founder of Wikipedia (Jimmy Wales) about trust. Having prompts is a good way to go from the blank page to getting started (see below for 54 helpful prompts). I read a great Substack from the Polymath Investor about how to manufacture luck (most of it is useful). Interesting to read the culture document that Ben Horowitz has all employees sign at a16z. I found that after reading Pack McCormick's deep dive on the company. And then I was reminded of a quote from Brian Chesky about the leaders in your life who see more in you than you do in yourself (we all need people like that).

#671: Jimmy Wales - The Founder of Wikipedia

Jimmy Wales is the founder of Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. After his daughter Kira's birth faced medical challenges and he couldn't find reliable information online, Jimmy launched Wikipedia in January 2001. In this conversation, Jimmy shares why extending trust before it's earned creates better outcomes, how to deal with bad actors, and the seven rules for building things that last. You can also WATCH our conversation on YouTube.

Here is the culture document (written by Ben Horowitz) that every a16z employee signs. "A culture is not a set of beliefs. It's a set of actions."

ABOUT PODCAST BOOKS SPEAKING LEADERSHIP CIRCLES Welcome to Mindful Monday! I had dinner with Mike Deegan a few weeks ago and was blown away by his humility... And I loved learning about his team's ethos of Mudita. So... We decided to record a podcast together. I think you'll like it. Morgan Housel published an essay for the first time in months (some things he's sure about). It's great. Brent Beshore is probably the best "Year In Review" writer on the planet. That just came out. I just...

ABOUT PODCAST BOOKS SPEAKING LEADERSHIP CIRCLES Welcome to Mindful Monday! This week... I'm out west skiing with my family to kick off 2026! Also, I've been thinking about my trip to NYC and how that crazy mentalist Oz seemed to read my mind. Still trying to figure out how he did it. You should watch the end of our conversation on YouTube to see what I'm talking about. Also, check out my 2025 Year-In-Review. Read Julian Shapiro's incredible essay on how to become an elite storyteller. Peter...

2025 Review and a Look Ahead to 2026 (Click HERE to read it online) Leading up to 2025, my teammate, Geron Stokes, convinced our Learning Leader Circle members to choose a word of the year. I’d heard of the idea but thought it was just a thing online influencers did to sell a course. So, I didn’t do it. But Geron pushed a bit and described how helpful the exercise had been for him, so I changed my mind. Why not? What could it hurt to try? I made 2025 the Year of Connection. It ended up having...
