Welcome to Mindful Monday!

Here are some things I found useful this week...

  • Talked down with Tom Hardin (Tipper X). Wild conversation about the largest insider trading investigation in history (and what that has to do with leadership)
  • Kat Cole's essay on common truths in Leadership and Business
  • A useful essay about the downside of the 80/20 rules
  • Why Norway wins so much at the Olympics
  • And some wise words from Clark Lea about belief...

#675: Tom Hardin - Good People Can Do Unethical Things...

Tom Hardin was known as “Tipper X” during Operation Perfect Hedge, the largest insider trading investigation in history. After making four illegal trades based on inside information, the FBI approached him on a Manhattan street corner and convinced him to wear a wire over 40 times, helping build 20 of the 81 cases. In this conversation, Tom shares how ambiguous leadership messages create cultures of silence, why 80% of employees can be swayed toward unethical behavior, and what he learned about eulogy virtues versus resume virtues. You can also WATCH on YouTube.

When The 80/20 Rule Fails...

Audrey Hepburn was an icon. Rising to fame in the 1950s, she was one of the greatest actresses of her era. In 1953, Hepburn became the first actress to win an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a BAFTA Award for a single performance: her leading role in the romantic comedy Roman Holiday. But then something funny happened: she stopped acting. Why? Read more...

Why Does Norway Win So Much at The Olympics?

Norway consistently wins a lot of medals at the Winter Olympic Games, with a population of just 5.6 million people. They are currently battling it out for the most medals in Milano-Cortina. They won the most medals in 2022. They won the most medals in 2018. CLICK HERE to read why.

Edan Lepucki wrote something that made me laugh and think about my own kids. Paul Graham on why thinking for yourself is so hard. And Daniel...

ABOUT PODCAST BOOKS SPEAKING LEADERSHIP CIRCLES Welcome to Mindful Monday! Check out the conversation I had with one of my literary heroes, Dan Coyle, in Cleveland. This is the best one we've ever recorded together. Parker Conrad shared a super interesting story about Kleiner Perkins on the brink of failure... There's a helpful essay from Brad Stulberg/Steve Magness about goals... A deep dive into Super Bowl commercials (and whether it's worth paying for a spot). And some wise words from...

ABOUT PODCAST BOOKS SPEAKING LEADERSHIP CIRCLES Welcome to Mindful Monday! I've had lots of off-air conversations with Brad Stulberg over the years. It was cool to record this one about excellence. Love this old essay I found from Naval about high standards. I read a useful essay from Nathan Barry about how to host a great mastermind retreat. Also, a short (and useful) essay from Ravi Gupta about recognizing excellence. And some wise words from Booker T. Washington. #672: Brad Stulberg - The...
