#693: Tina Seelig - Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Luck

Tina Seelig has spent 27 years at Stanford teaching some of the world’s most ambitious people how to see and seize opportunities. She’s a neuroscientist and the author of 18 books. Her TED Talk on luck has been viewed over 3.4 million times. Her newest book is called What I Wish I Knew About Luck: A Crash Course on Turning Aspirations into Achievements. We discuss Fortune vs. Luck, The Power of Curiosity, Why Your Words Change Lives, Failure Résumés, Thank You Notes, and Creating Luck Through Relationships, Observation, & Daily Action. You can also WATCH our conversation on YouTube.

Run a Book Club For The Price of Becoming

Book clubs are awesome because they help build community around a set of ideas. They create great dialogue. And there is power in learning useful and entertaining things together. Because of that, we have built a guide to run a The Price of Becoming book club. If you'd like to run a The Price of Becoming book club at your workplace or in your community, let me know, and I'll send you the guide.

Ohio Has Become a Hub for Tech & Manufacturing

Columbus, Ohio, has become a critical hub for advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence. “Columbus is booming,” said Dennis DeMeyere, a former technical director at Google Cloud, who plans to open an A.I.-powered manufacturing company, Autonomous Production, near Columbus. “It’s wild. Everything is under construction. It feels like the Bay Area felt 13 or 14 years ago.” CLICK HERE to read more.

How to Write Cold Emails

Good emails require minimal effort from the recipient; bad emails overwhelm them. Keep it specific. Do your research. Don't send AI slop. Add value. CLICK HERE for more ideas on how to write great cold emails.

Wise Words

"What customers actually want is consistency. Show up the same way every single time, and that is worth more than any Super Bowl ad." -- Seth Godin

Mindful Monday is a reader-supported publication. If it helped you, forward it to your friends. Thank you! -- Ryan

During the second half of my conversation with Jim Collins, we started talking about what we were encoded for. He mentioned that he was encoded to be really curious. And how that’s driven his personal and professional life flywheel. Then he started talking about what I was encoded for. He said, “You have incredible encodings for what I would describe as attractive persistence. You don’t have a pushy tone. You are persistent.
