#611: Codie Sanchez - How To Build Wealth Through Ordinary Businesses

Codie Sanchez is the author of Main Street Millionaire. She advocates for wealth-building by acquiring small businesses. She emphasizes practical, contrarian approaches to wealth and leadership. We discussed the importance of ambitious parents, running great meetings, how to buy your first business, how to earn a job you're not qualified for, and much more. You can also WATCH our conversation on YouTube.

How to Land Your Dream Job

Why Some Companies Achieve Dominance While Others Get Bogged Down

What is dominance? In game theory, a dominant player is one who is occupying a position in which you can’t be beaten by your competitors no matter what their next set of moves are. For example, in the famous “Prisoner’s Dilemma,” the dominant strategy is to confess, because it’s the best action to take regardless of what the other player chooses. This might seem too abstract to be useful, but there are very real scenarios where companies put themselves in positions that are unbeatable, at least for a time. CLICK HERE to learn more.

50 Things Sasha Chapin Knows...

I enjoy reading essays about the beliefs of thoughtful people. I thought this one from Sasha Chapin was interesting. Some examples from it: #15 - I know how to spot real confidence. Look for people who are fluid with status—who allow themselves to be the butt of a joke, or accept criticism, but also avoid false modesty, and inhabit the spotlight when it falls on them. One might call this a balance between dignity and humility. #50 - I know that almost nobody hears too many sincere compliments. Compliment them to their face. Then, compliment them behind their back. Practice naming pleasant feelings you have about people, as soon as they bubble up, in the moment: “It’s always fun to see you.” Lower the resistance around this to zero. CLICK HERE to read more.

Wise Words...

“When was the last time you had a great conversation? A conversation that wasn’t just two intersecting monologues, but when you overheard yourself saying things you never knew you knew, that you heard yourself receiving from somebody words that found places within you that you thought you had lost, and the sense of an eventive conversation that brought the two of you into a different plain and then forthly, a conversation that continued to sing afterwards for weeks in your mind? Conversations like that are food and drink for the soul.”John O’Donahue
