#646: Nick Maggillui - The Wealth Ladder

Nick Maggiulli is the COO and Data Scientist at Ritholtz Wealth Management. He is the best-selling author of Just Keep Buying, and his latest book is called The Wealth Ladder. Nick is also the author of OfDollarsAndData.com, a blog focused on the intersection of data and personal finance. We discussed the 6 levels of wealth, Bill Perkins' die with zero philosophy, what we can learn from chess, and much more. You can also WATCH our conversation on YouTube.

The Power of Full Commitment

Anna Wintour once said, "People respond well to those that are sure of what they want. What people hate most is indecision." This gets at something deeper about human psychology and why we're drawn to people who commit completely to their goals. CLICK HERE to read more.

The "PMarca" Guide To Career Planning

The world is an incredibly complex place, and everything is changing all the time. You can’t plan your career because you have no idea what’s going to happen in the future. You have no idea what industries you’ll enter, what companies you’ll work for, what roles you’ll have, where you’ll live, or what you will ultimately contribute to the world. You’ll change, industries will change, the world will change, and you can’t possibly predict any of it. CLICK HERE to read more.

What Is Beauty?

Jake Plummer and Pat Tillman played together at Arizona State and then again with the Arizona Cardinals. After Pat died, Jake described him as a unique bird who was comfortable being himself and didn't conform to societal expectations. He emphasized that Pat’s authenticity was a valuable lesson for others, especially the younger generation. And then Jake shared his definition of beauty (my favorite). CLICK HERE to read it.

Wise Words

“I settled on a game called I am a contribution. Unlike success and failure, contribution has no other side. It is not arrived at by comparison.” -- Benjamin Zander
