Welcome to Mindful Monday!

This week, we focus on effectiveness over efficiency, learning how to practice, how to keep going, becoming the calmest person in the room, and some wise words from Benjamin Franklin. And... CLICK HERE to read our USA Today Best-Selling book, The Score That Matters.

#647: Tim Ferriss Opens Up: Fame, Fatherhood, & Finding Balance

Tim Ferriss is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers (including The 4-Hour Work Week, Tools of Titans, and Tribe of Mentors). His podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show, has been listened to more than a billion times. Tim was an early investor in Uber, Shopify, Twitter, Alibaba, and many others. We discussed Chasing Your Curiosity, Internal vs External Scoreboards, Effectiveness over Efficiency, Winning Even if You Fail, Fame's Hidden Costs, & Being on The Mount Rushmore of Podcasting. You can also WATCH our conversation on YouTube.

How Do You Practice?

One of Tyler Cowen's favorite questions is, “What is it you do to train that is comparable to a pianist practicing scales?” If you don’t know the answer to that one, maybe you are doing something wrong or not doing enough. Or maybe you are (optimally?) not very ambitious? CLICK HERE to read more.

How To Keep Going

Austin Kleon wrote a list of 10 things that have helped him stay creative regardless of what's happening around him. I think it's helpful. Also, Austin came on The Learning Leader Show a few years ago. Fun conversation.

The Calmest Person In The Room

There's a strange thing that happens during a crisis. When the world feels like it's falling apart, people don't run toward the smartest person in the room, or the most experienced, or even the one with the best plan. They run toward whoever seems least rattled by what's happening. This makes sense when you think about it. Panic is contagious. So is calm. And when your thoughts are scattered by stress, you naturally gravitate toward someone who is organized. It's instinctive. CLICK HERE to read more.

Wise Words

“The best sermon is a good example." -- Benjamin Franklin

Thank you for reading. Mindful Monday is a reader-supported publication. The best way to support it is to order our book, The Score That Matters. If you've already read it, I'd love for you to CLICK THIS LINK and write a review.
